MARCH 2009: Touring The North Slope

The North Slope Progressive Home Tour Enjoyed By All

Approximately 80 people from in and outside our neighborhood enjoyed a tour of four of the North Slope's most stunning older homes plus a variety of special treats.

Our thanks to everyone who attended, our hard-working volunteers, and most importantly, the four homeowners that graciously shared their homes with us.

To make sure you find out when our next event is, or to get the early word about next year's progressive tour, make sure and join our e-mail list by signing up above.

JULY 2008:  Hundreds Come Out To Celebrate The 4th!

Third Annual North Slope Parade Enjoyed By All

An estimated 350+ children of all ages participated in the third annual North Slope 4th of July parade.

Held during overcast skies, (which the pushers of various floats were thankful for), hundreds of residents of our neighborhood either walked or rode the parade route while others cheered on the parade from lawn chairs in front of their homes.

New this year, the contest for "best float" was won, after much deliberation by our judges, by "Steampunk." Second place went to

"Dancing With the Stars & Stripes."

Our thanks again this year to Scott and Calendual Nursery & Landscaping

which lead the parade with a decorated "digger."

Our thanks also go out to Cub Scout Pack 209 which provided our official color guard.

AUGUST 2007: Cool Weather Didn't Stop The Fun. . .

2007 National Night Out at North Slope Park

Draws Neighbors For Treats and Talk

A night that started out feeling more like snow than rain was a possibility still did not prevent lots of neighbors away from the North Slope's annual National Night Night Out event at the North Slope Park on August 7th.

Along with lots of great food brought by many local residents, kids and adults alike were thrilled by the Tacoma Fire Department stopping by with a paramedic unit and two fire trucks as well as a vehicle from the National Guard reserve.

Thanks to everyone who attended and planned this event! Click below to see some pictures.

JULY 2007: A Record Crowd Turns Out...

Perfect Weather & Great Neighbors Make

the North Slope’s Second Annual

Fourth of July Kiddie Parade a Huge Success!

Children of all ages along with parents, grandparents and friends turned out in record numbers for the North Slope’s Second Annual Fourth of July Kiddie Parade.

The 2007 parade featured a tractor leading the way along with at least 3 floats, a variety of bikes, strollers and wagons and even people on J Street on the sidelines to root on those that participated.  Attendance was estimated to be approximately 250 people.   See below for pictures from the big event.

OCTOBER 2005:  A Big Success!

First Annual North Slope Oktoberfest Draws Many in 2005

Our first annual North Slope Historic District Oktoberfest was held in October 2005 at the Parkway Tavern.  By all indications--it was a big hit--with many asking: "can we do it again next year?"  More than 75 people from in and outside the North Slope attended, enjoying beer tastes, light fare, and getting to know neighbors. Proceeds went towards future beautification and safety-related projects.

Special thanks to the organizer of the event, Tiffany Price of our program committee.  Thanks to the Parkway Tavern for hosting the event, the free glasses, printing of information, as well as other contributions; Mark Skattum for cooking; Party World for donating plates and napkins; and Safeway for giving us a $50 gift card for food.

SEPTEMBER 2004:  Fun Had By All

"Wine With Your Neighbors" a Huge Success in '04

Fun reigned at the North Slope's September 2004 social event and fundraiser. More than 50 people bought tickets and met up at Bacchante's for an afternoon of socializing, meeting neighbors ... and wine tasting!

Special thanks go to Bacchante's owner (and North Slope resident) Angie Unger. Thanks to her generosity, the North Slope added cash to its coffers for future beautification and safety-related projects.

Thanks to all who purchased and sold tickets, helped publicize the event, and coordinated the day's activities. For all who attended (or wish they had), here's a list of wines served:

1. Henkel Troken Sparkling Champagne

2. Argyle Chardonnay

3. Black Chook Shiraz

4. Aquinas Cabernet

5. Foppiano Sirah
