The Secrets of Garfield Gulch

This is the 1896 Sanderson map of N. K Street from N. 5th (right) to N. 6th (left). N. 6th between N. K and N. J was not put through until after 1912. The gulch spanned by trestle bridge in 1891 when streetcar line is put along N. K Street.  It was aprx. 300 ft long and 40 ft high and was probably removed in around 1912 when the Tacoma Ave. bridge was replaced. Buildings shown on this map:

-605 & 607 build in 1890 by Blair& Ramsey (extant)

-524 built in 1894 as Drew & Bros. Grocery. Entrance at alley with wooden platform along side to N. K (extant as Corner Bar)

Later buildings on north side of N. K:

-1021 N. 5th in 1905 (extant) Cornell house

-511 built in 1955 (extant, apartments)

-521 built in 1950 (extant, apartments)

-601 built in 1905 (extant, now laundromat)

Later buildings on south side of N. K:

-1101 N. 5th in 1905

-508 built in 1924 (extant, originally Elite Beauty Parlor)

-512 built in 1946 (extant)

-516 built in 1906 (bakery, destroyed) current house built in 1933

-518 built in 1948 (extant)
