The Secrets of Garfield Gulch

by Marshall McClintock

Originally presented January 22, 2009 for the North Slope Historic District

This article is from page 25 of the December 24, 1911 edition of the Tacoma Daily Ledger.  It describes that the N. Tacoma Ave. trestle is removed and the street’s path curves south to lessen need to fill gulch and land is given to the Tacoma Lawn Tennis Club.

The gulch is filled in between N. Tacoma Ave. and N. G St. using dirt from Ashton Hill, largely to the west of where Annie Wright School (1924) sits today.
